Music Technology and Production

Music Technology and Production lessons will focus on the recording and production side of music. We will study studio techniques concerning signal flow, gain structure, microphone selection and techniques in tracking, editing, mixing and advanced digital audio workstation software concepts.

These lessons will be geared towards each student’s interests and their own music styles while incorporating all important concepts. Through weekly projects, we will work on recording both real and digital instruments, building songs, incorporating harmony and melody, mixing, panning, eq, compression, use of plugins, click tracks, and more. The depth and difficult of the lessons will be tailored to the student’s knowledge, abilities and particular interests

Students will need headphones and a laptop computer (MAC or Windows), we will assist them in downloading free DAW (digital audio workstation) software, such as GarageBand or Reaper, to then begin to create and learn.

About the Instructor

Nick Preister is a graduate of Elon University, with a BS in music production and recording arts… he also works at a prestigious, high-tech local recording studio, assisting in the engineering and production of professional recording projects. He is extremely versed in the software and concepts used in creating music today.
